How to Convert Salary to Hourly Rate

To convert an annual salary to an hourly rate, divide the salary by the total number of hours you work in a year. Total yearly hours equal your hours per week multiplied by the number of weeks you work per year. For example, a $60,000 salary at 40 hours/week for 52 weeks works out to $28.85 per hour.

Converting Hourly Rate to Annual Salary

To go the other way, multiply your hourly rate by your hours per week, then multiply that by the number of weeks you work per year. For example, $25/hour × 40 hours × 52 weeks = $52,000 per year.

Accounting for Unpaid Time Off

If you take unpaid vacation, holidays, or leave, lower the weeks per year field below 52. This spreads your salary over fewer working weeks, giving a more accurate hourly rate for the time you actually work.

Gross vs. Net Pay

This calculator shows gross pay — your earnings before taxes, insurance, retirement contributions, and other deductions. Your actual take-home pay will be lower depending on your tax bracket and benefits.
