Karvonen Formula (Heart Rate Reserve)

The Karvonen formula, developed by the Finnish physiologist Martti Karvonen in 1957, is more individualized because it uses your resting heart rate:

Target HR = ((Max HR − Resting HR) × Intensity %) + Resting HR

For example, if your Max HR is 180 and Resting HR is 60, your Fat Burn zone (60–70%) would be:
Lower end: (180−60)×0.60 + 60 = 132 BPM
Upper end: (180−60)×0.70 + 60 = 144 BPM
