How to Convert Hourly Wage to Annual Salary
The basic formula to convert an hourly wage to annual salary is straightforward: multiply your hourly rate by the number of hours you work per week, then multiply by 52 weeks. For a standard 40-hour work week, the formula is:
Example: $25/hr × 40 hrs × 52 weeks = $52,000/year
Converting to Monthly, Weekly, and Daily Pay
Once you have your annual salary, breaking it into other pay periods is simple. Divide by 12 for monthly, 26 for biweekly, 52 for weekly, or 260 for daily pay (based on 260 working days per year). Our calculator does all of this automatically.
How Many Hours Per Year Is Full-Time?
A standard full-time job is 40 hours per week × 52 weeks = 2,080 hours per year. If you take 2 weeks of vacation and 10 paid holidays, actual working hours drop to approximately 2,000 hours per year. Use the "Weeks Per Year" field in our calculator to account for time off.
Overtime Pay Calculation
Under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), non-exempt employees must receive overtime pay of at least 1.5× their regular hourly rate for all hours beyond 40 per week. Some employers offer double time (2×) for holidays or special shifts. Our calculator includes an overtime section so you can see how extra hours affect your total annual income.
US Minimum Wage in 2025
The federal minimum wage remains $7.25 per hour in 2025 — unchanged since 2009. However, many states and cities have enacted higher minimum wages. California: $16.50/hr, New York: $16.50/hr, Washington: $16.28/hr, Colorado: $14.81/hr, and Massachusetts: $15.00/hr. Always check your local state law, as state minimums override the federal rate when higher.
Frequently Asked Questions
Multiply your hourly rate by the number of hours per week, then by 52 weeks. For a standard 40-hour work week: Annual Salary = Hourly Rate × 40 × 52. For example, $25/hour × 40 × 52 = $52,000/year.
A standard full-time job equals 2,080 hours per year (40 hours/week × 52 weeks). If you subtract 10 federal holidays and 2 weeks of vacation, the actual number drops to approximately 2,000 hours per year.
The US federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour as of 2025, unchanged since 2009. Many states set higher rates — California is $16.50/hr, New York is $16.50/hr, and Washington state is $16.28/hr. State minimums apply when they exceed the federal rate.
Under the FLSA, non-exempt employees earn at least 1.5× their regular rate for hours beyond 40 per week. If your rate is $20/hr, your overtime rate is $30/hr. Some employers offer double time (2×) for holidays or special conditions. Our calculator handles both scenarios.
Divide your annual salary by your total working hours per year. For a standard 40-hr/week schedule: Hourly Rate = Annual Salary ÷ 2,080. For example, $52,000 ÷ 2,080 = $25/hr. Use the "Salary → Hourly" tab above to calculate this instantly.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median hourly wage in the US is approximately $23–$25/hour as of 2025, translating to $47,000–$52,000 per year. However, "good" depends heavily on location, industry, and experience. High-cost cities like San Francisco or New York require higher wages to maintain the same standard of living.
